A letter from our patient Susie who had Shismart Braces with Dr. Shih
"Hi, Dr Shih,
I wanted to give you my testimony for the
orthodontic treatment experience I have received
through your office, Jefferson Dental. I first have to
say that I had many consults with several
orthodontists, dentists, and even a few oral surgeons
as my case was very extreme. I had a 7-8 mm overjet, a
Class II malocclusion, and a lower jaw that is
somewhat smaller than my upper jaw. Many doctors
recommended that I have orthonagthic surgery and most
recommended at least some teeth extraction. I was also
given a timeline of several years to be finished with
my case.
When I came to your office, I would have never even
considered metal braces but was going to give Viazzi
braces a try before giving up completely with braces.
I am glad to say now that Viazzi was the best choice I
have ever made. I was given a timeline of at least 2
years if I had worn regular metal braces or
Invisalign, but with Viazzi braces, I was able to
finish in only 8 months! Considering that I am over
18, that is even quicker than Viazzi's average claim
to finish in half the time of regular braces. Now I
have a Class I bite with almost no overjet, achieved
without any extractions or surgery. Most of all, I do
not have any TMJ symptoms as I did in the past. Dr
Shih was very conscientious about making sure that my
TMJ would not be exascerbated by my wearing the braces
and made sure I was never in any pain throughout these
last 8 months. He was always very patient and
explained everything to me as things were happening
with the wires, brackets, and powerchains. I think Dr
Shih should be doing Extreme Makeovers for ABC. It was
fast, easy, and painless and my teeth, gums, and roots
are healthy as well. Now I can go back to
acting/modeling and dating again!

Q: What is Shismart Bio-efficient Braces?
A: Dr. Shih has combined the VIAZIS brackets, GAC bioefficient wire and Invisalign to speed the treatment for his patients since 2004. Dr. Shih has successfully treat all type of Orthodontic patients, including Class I, Class II, Class III and even Class IV surgical case with Shismart Braces.

Iower sensitivity?
It seems so. University research has shown "lower sensitivity" and greater "pain reduction" with the bracket, "a clear-cut reduction in sliding friction" and "the lowest mean frictional forces" compared to the traditional braces tested.
Are there any other clinical advantages?
Possibly. Research has shown that the longer the patients wear traditional braces, the more root resorption (tooth root shortening) they have (American Journal of Orthodontics). University research in the same journal showed that this braces presented even less root resorption than the traditional systems tested.
